Peppermint Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

I know I have been MIA for months, but I just wanted to share my most recent recipe with you. I got the idea for the recipe from Pinterest. ( I have finally hopped onto the Pinterest bandwagon, you can follow me here) Anyways, I just recently hosted my first Cookie Exchange and this was the cookie I made. I really liked how it turned out and it was super easy!

What I have been up to....

So I know I said I would be back in August. I thoguht I would have been back a lot sooner, but life has been so hectic!!

So I thought I would show you in pictures what I have done all summer!

We took a little family vacation to St. George which was so fun.

I helped plan my sister's wedding and I also took her bridal pictures.

My sister and I made her cake too. This was a first time for me...and I was just helping. My sister did the hard parts! :)

The other reason that I haven't been back is that my hubby got a job!!!

The only downside is that it is in North Dakota.

So I am still here in Utah and he is in North Dakota. It is a total bummer, but hopefully we will all move up there soon.

I think life is finally settling down a little so I hope to be back to regular posting!

Taking a Break....

Life is hectic.

July has been a whirlwind!

I feel like I haven't had a break the whole month!

We have had something going on pretty much everyday.

Not to mention the daunting task of packing.

Have I mentioned that I hate packing?

Well I do.

It seriously sucks.

So, I am sure you have noticed that I have not done anything for the past few weeks!

I decided that I am taking a break for the rest of July.

I know that I pretty much do this about every six months, but I did want to thank all my readers for sticking by me whenever I do take a break!

So Thank You!

Fruit Kabobs and Congrats Banner

Over the weekend we had a party for the hubby to celebrate his graduation!

It turned out great. I didn't have time to do everything that I wanted to, but I did make a few homemade things for his party.

For the centerpieces I made Fruit Kabobs and put them in mason jars with a homemade tag. Loved how they turned out, plus they are edible! So everyone got to enjoy them. :)

I also made a quick banner for the party as well and I like how it turned out!

I have decided that it's really hard to make manly things. I tried to keep it as simple as possible.

That's pretty much as far as I went for the party...nothing too fancy. If only I had more time!

I am packing up all of my craft stuff for the move, so that means no crafting for a couple weeks. :(

We have been so busy! I don't think our lives are going to slow down for a while. I like being busy, but I could really use a break! :)

Dress to Child's Skirt {mini Tutorial}

I love making things for my kids! It's not often that I sew things for Hannah, but I was feeling a little crafty and decided to try my hand at making her a skirt out of an old dress I had.

She loved it.

It only took me about 20 minutes to complete! Which is my kind of sewing! :)

This is a "mini" tutorial because I honestly am horrible at explaining how to sew things!

Disclamier: I am not a sewer.

I don't use technical terms at all.

I just hope you can understand it. :)

This is the dress I started out with. I loved this dress, but it was a little too short for me and I was just going to get rid of it, but I decided that I could make it into a skirt for Hannah!

Step 1: Cut the top off and measure the the length and width to fit your child. I made sure I left the bottom alone so that I didn't have to hem it. I only cut down the middle to make it the size that I needed it.

Step 2: After you have cut it to the size you need, sew the sides together and also hem the top to fit, but leave a little opening so that you can string your drawstring through.

Step 4: I used the straps and some elastic to make the band in the skirt.

After you have your drawstring sewn together, string it through the skirt and sew it shut.

Doesn't she have the cutest little backside!

Now, we can't forget about my little man. With some of the leftover dress I made him a tie onesie to match his sister.

Love the face Charlie is pulling in this picture!

So easy, and it didn't cost me a dime!

Starting a New Endeavor...and other news...

I am not sure if you've noticed, but I have been kind of absent from crafting for a bit.

Well, the reason being is that I am focusing on my photography.

I have been super busy taking pictures lately and editing!

Who knew that editing pictures took so much time!

I really love it. I am still a beginner, but I learn something new almost everyday.

I am constantly coming up with new ideas and learning new techniques.

I started another blog just for my photography that showcases the photo shoots that I have done.

It also has information on pricing and contact information.

But, I thought I would share some of my favorite pictures I have taken in the last few weeks.

These next few pictures are engagement pictures that I did for my sister.

My favorite subject is still my kiddos! I love taking their pictures and this is my most recent one of Charlie.

I have also done a few family photo shoots! This is one of my most recent families that I did pictures for.

Onto other news...

I love the summer.

Especially this summer.

My hubby has officially graduated...YAY!

But, he hasn't found a job yet...(boo....)

Since he has been home more we have gotten to spend so much time together and with our kids. I don't think I have seen him this much since we were dating!

We try to do something fun everyday with the kids and that means I have less time to blog. Which I am OK with. So I have decided to cut back a little.

We are also going to be moving at the end of July and that will definitely hinder the crafting/blogging a bit.

The Easiest Pasta Salad EVER.

When I say this is the easiest pasta salad ever.

I mean it.

This is my go-to salad whenever we have a bbq.

My mom has been making this salad since I can remember and now I make it for my family.

Only 5 ingredients folks!

Chop up your olives and quarter your pepperonis.

Add parmesan and dressing right before you serve.

Recipe

1 package of garden rotini

1 cup of chopped black olives

1 cup of pepperoni (quartered

Parmesan cheese to taste

Zesty Italian salad dressing (to taste)

Cook pasta according to package instructions. Add in pepperoni and olives. Before serving add dressing and cheese. Refrigerate.

The great thing about this salad is that you can really make it your own. Sometimes I add tomatoes, red bell pepper, or any vegetables I have on hand.

The other great thing, is that is so refreshing for summer!

Terra Cotta Pot Transformation

Last week when I was working on this project, I decided my mom needed to spruce up her terra cotta pots.

We are trying to add color to her yard and this was the perfect project to add a splash of color!

Plus, they were super easy and only took about 15 minutes to make.

We started with plain terra cotta pots....

Then we painted them blue and red.

Just and FYI, don't leave the dirt in your pots when you paint them.

You WILL get dirt all over your paint. :)

Just thought I would let you know.

After your paint is dry, you can hot glue your rope all around your pot.

We did this three times.

Next, plant your flowers.

Our flower of choice:

So easy, and so much better than just a regular terra cotta pot!

Because Graham Crackers Taste Better With Frosting.....

I grew up with these treats.

My mom would call them: "a poor man's cookie"

They are so easy.

A load of frosting sandwiched with two graham crackers.

So easy, so so good.

There really isn't a recipe for these tasty treats.

Just pick your favorite frosting and smash it between two graham crackers.

That's it.

ps: they are even better the second day.

well, if they last that long!

We went to Art City Days Parade and I made the kids matching outfits. (tutorial to come)

Wishing Well Makeover

I am finally getting back on schedule after my vacation!

However, I really miss the sleeping in part. I could really do that more often!

Today, I got to spend the day with my mom and we decided it was time to give her wishing well a makeover.

This was originally used as a water fountain sort of deal, but stopped working.

So I decided that it would be cute if we painted it and planted flowers where the water would normally go.

Here is the before:

Here is the paint color that my mom picked out. Love it!

And here is the AFTER:

I love how it turned out, and I really love how bright it is! So much fun and it adds so much color to their yard!

Here it is in it's final resting place.

I am so happy with the way it turned out, and it was fun to spend the afternoon with my mom crafting! :)

You are a "Tee-rrific" Dad {Free Printable}

Last week I shared this over at Tatertots and Jello. Thought I would share it here in case anyone missed it last week!

Father's Day will be here before you know it and I have the perfect gift idea for the Father's in your life.

My hubby LOVES to golf and so I wanted to make something special for him that involved his favorite hobby.

I did three different color schemes, so you can pick your favorite!

Let's get started!

Tutorial:

Supplies Needed

1 bag of tees

1 Tag

1 piece of coordinating card stock cut to the size of tee tag

Tape

Staples

Jute

Step 1: Print your free printable here. (this one is for the color scheme shown)

I have designed 3 different color schemes

Red

Blue

Brown

Step 2: Measure the tag on the tees.

Step 3: Cut out your tags and cut out coordinating scrapbook paper to the size you measured.

Step 4: Staple scrapbook paper to the bag. (Try to staple in far enough that your tag will hide your staples)

Step 5: Tape your tag onto your scrapbook paper. I used scrapbooking tape for this.

Step 5: Wrap jute around the bag loosely about 3 times and tie in the back.

Step 6: Tape your circle tag onto the front of the bag in the middle of jute.

And you're done!

Super simple and easy to make.

Food For Thought Tuesday: Ice Cream Sandwich Dessert

This dessert is PERFECT for summer.

That is, if summer would ever get here! :)

It is a no bake dessert that you can seriously put together in 10 minutes.

My family loves it and we always enjoy this in the summertime when it's sweltering outside.

After seeing how easy this is, I know you will want to make this for your family!

Ingredients

For this size of dish I used I needed two boxes.
I also used Cookies and Cream ice cream sandwiches this time.
You can use any flavor that you like.

Step 1: Place a layer of ice cream sandwiches on the bottom of dish

Step 2. Next, layer hot fudge on top of ice cream sandwiches.

Step 3: Add another layer of ice cream sandwiches.

Step 5: Add one more layer of hot fudge

Step 6: Top with cool whip

Step 7: Swirl remaining fudge over the top. And freeze a few hours before serving.

Recipe

Ice Cream Sandwich Dessert

1 jar hot fudge

1 small package of cool whip

Food For Thought Tuesday: Strawberry and Cream Cupcakes

Hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.

We pretty much did nothing.

It was nice.

The weather however, was horrible.

When is summer ever going to show up?

Even though the weather was horrible, this little treat did brighten my day a little. :)

I made these on Sunday and they were delicious!

Ingredients:

SUPER EASY

These cupcakes are seriously easy peasy. The only ingredient that was not in my pantry was the Fanta strawberry soda.

I love how pink the batter is from the soda.

I only like to fill my cupcake papers about two-thirds full. I find if you do it any more than this than you get major muffin-tops.

This batter made 18 cupcakes.

Cool, and frost.

Recipe from "Super Moist Cake Mix Recipes" from Betty Crocker

Strawberry and Cream Cupcakes:

1 box Betty Crocker super moist white cake mix

1 1/4 cups strawberry flavored soda pop ( I used Fanta)

Vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box.

Fresh Strawberries for garnish

1 Recipe of Cream Cheese Frosting. Go HERE for my recipe.

heat oven to 350. Make and bake cake mix as directed on box for 24 cupcakes, substituting soda pop for the water and using oil and egg whites.

Bake for 14 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove and cool on cooling rack.

When completely cooled, frost with cream cheese frosting and top with chopped strawberries.

Refrigerate.

Simple Square Frame-Advice

Over the weekend, my hubby and I made this square frame.

We made it out of very rustic wood and just nailed the it together.

It seriously took 15 minutes.

I LOVE the way it looks. I love how rustic and old it looks and the simplicity of it.

However, I don't know what to do with it!

I was thinking I wanted use it as a wreath, rather than a frame but I have no idea what to do!

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Food For Thought Tuesday: Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

For family home evening we made Chocolate Crinkle Cookies.

I remember eating these when I was young and I haven't had one in years, so I decided that it would be fun to make these for our treat for FHE.

I love to include Hannah and Charlie when I cook. Hannah is getting big enough to really do most of the work. I just help her a little. Obviously Charlie can't cook, but he loves to sit and watch me cook dinner every night.

Ingredients

Hannah loves to help me cook. She especially loves to stir!

Dipping the cookie dough in powdered sugar.

This was her favorite part, and the messiest part!

She thoroughly enjoyed eating them! :)

And I did too! They were super yummy!

I got the recipe from this blog.

ingredients:

2 cups sugar

3/4 cup vegetable oil

3/4 cup hershey's cocoa powder

4 eggs

2 tsp vanilla extract

2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

powdered sugar

directions:
in a large mixing bowl, combine sugar & oil. add cocoa; blend well. beat in eggs and vanilla. combine flour, baking powder & salt; add to cocoa mixture blending well. cover; chill at least 6 hours. heat oven to 350. shape dough into 1 inch balls. roll in powdered sugar. place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. bake 12 to 14 minutes or until almost no indentation remains when touched. remove from cookie sheet; cool on wire rack. makes 4 dozen.

Review: I thought they turned out really well! I didn't chill my dough for 6 hours, I only did it for about 4 and they still turned out fine.

I'm not sure if I made mine a little big, but it only made 3 dozen cookies for me.

I will definitely be making these again!

Brag Board {tutorial}

As you know we are poor college students, and don't really have the funds to buy expensive gifts for Mother's Day.

So I was trying to come up with an inexpensive, yet cute way that my mom and mother-in-law could hang up all their pictures of all their grandchildren, and this is what I came up with.

It was super easy to make, and the supplies were really inexpensive.

I made one with green lettering and the other one with brown lettering. I actually like the brown lettering better, but I didn't get a picture of the finished product!

So this is the one I gave my mom.

Tutorial:

Supplies:

1 Wood Board

Paint

Vinyl lettering

Jute

Distressing Ink

Mini Clothespins

Step 1: Paint your board. I bought my board at my local craft store. When your paint is dry, use distressing ink on the edges of the board.

Step 2: Drill two holes in the two sides of the board so that you can string your jute through

3. Apply your vinyl lettering

4. String your jute through both holes and tie in the back.

5. Hot glue jute around the board.

Step 6. Hang your pictures (I used wallet sized pics, but if you made a larger board you could use bigger pics)

Super easy to make and a great way to brag about your kids or grandchildren!

You could also make a larger version and hang up your kid's artwork from school or bigger pictures.

Because I haven't cooked in a week...

There is no recipe this week.

This funk that I have been in has affected my cooking.

I have avoided it like the plague.

I had the greatest intention of cooking a real meal last night,

but that didn't happen.

My day was spent doing as little as possible.

I have two sick kids

and I can't seem to get over a nasty cold.

So I have drugged myself with dayquil, and cough medicine

and am praying this nasty cold will just go away!

So to make up for not posting a recipe,

I thought I would show off the cutest little boy in the world.

My baby just turned 6 months old! I can't believe it.

I took these pictures over the weekend, and I am loving how they turned out. :)

Food For Thought Tuesday: Pound Cake Trifle

This dessert was actually the creation after a cooking fail.

I was supposed to make a Strawberry Boston Cream Pie for dessert for Mother's Day.

Let's just say I was a little too impatient and the cake didn't turn out well.

A run to costo for some pound cake, let to this creation:

Pound Cake Trifle.

1 store bought pound cake. ( I bought mine at costco, but you can get the stuff in the freezer section too)

1 small box of French Vanilla Instant pudding

1 cup cream

1 cup milk

3 cups sliced strawberries

1 box danish dessert

Cool Whip

A couple hours before you are ready to serve your dessert, prepare Danish dessert according to package instructions. Let cool in refrigerator.

Prepare pudding with 1 cup milk and 1 cup cream and whisk. Set in fridge until thick.

Cube pound cake into bite sized pieces.

You could make one large trifle or do individual servings. I did individual cups.

We all loved how it turned out! It was really yummy and I will definitely be making this again in the future!

I posted this on my personal blog, and thought I would share it with you.

All I wanted for Mother's Day was a picture with my kids.

Well, as you can see they had other plans.

Hannah decided to throw a tantrum.

Charlie was laughing at his sister.

And I am clenching my teeth and silently yelling at Brandon to take the damn picture.

When I was going through the pictures, I was kind of disappointed that they didn't turn out better.

I then realized that:

This is real life.

My life.

I may not have a perfect life, but I have the life I always wanted.

Hanging Letter Frame

I know I haven't crafted for a couple of weeks.

It has been kind of busy around here lately and I just haven't had the motivation to be crafty.

I seriously have a huge list of things I want to make, but I just don't have the time or the motivation to actually make it! :)

I was able to put together a simple craft today, that I am actually using for a wedding present.

It was super easy to make, and was really inexpensive. I had all of the supplies on hand.

Yes, I even had the M.

I was planning on using that for another project, but it just so happens that the last name of the newlywed couple begins with M.

Tutorial:

Step 1: Paint your frame. I painted mine black. It required a couple of coats.

Step 2: Paint your letter black, or whichever color that you prefer. :)

Step 3. Mod podge some paper on your letter and then use sandpaper and distressing ink to make it look old. Then use lace and a button to embellish. I tried to keep it simple. This person has a very similar style to my own, and I like to keep things looking simple.

Step 4: Tie a small bow (I used fabric, that I ripped) around the top of your frame. Then secure another piece of fabric to hot glue to your letter.

And your done!

I really like how it turned out! The best part was that it only took about a half hour to put together and I didn't have to run out and get any supplies!

I think I might make myself one in the future. We will be moving soon, and when we get settled I would really like to have a gallery style wall and I think this would look perfect for my wall!

Food For Thought Tuesday: Pineapple-Carrot Cake

I love carrot cake.

It is one of those really rich decadent desserts, that I can never say no to.

My mom and I have been helping my sister test out cupcake recipes for her wedding and over the weekend we decided to test out this recipe.

Pineapple-Carrot Cake.

This isn't your average carrot cake. Normal carrot cakes are kind of like a spice cake, but this one is more on the fruity side. We all really enjoyed it and I think we will be adding this cake to our wedding list!

Pineapple-Carrot Cake

Recipe from Betty Crocker

1 box Super moist butter recipe yellow cake mix

1/2 cup water

1/3 butter softened

1 tsp grated orange peel

1 tsp vanilla

4 eggs

1 can (8 oz) crushed pineapple *undrained

2 1/2 cups grated carrots

Heat oven 350* and spray and flour the bottom of a 9 X 13 cake pan.

In large bowl combine all cake ingredients, except carrots until blended. Then stir in carrots at the end.

Bake 35 to 45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Cool completely.

Frost with Cream Cheese Frosting. You can find my recipe here.

What I've Realized After Having Two Kids...

I love being a Mom.

It has brought many blessings and

so much joy into my life.

But, there are things

that will never be the same.

My hips.

They have become quite large.

Not sure, if they will ever go back

to what they once were.

My stomach.

If you have had any children

you know what I'm talking about.

Dates

Not sure when the last time

the hubby and I went on a date.

A real date.

Like going to see a movie,

or going out to dinner alone.

Sleep.

Oh how I long to just lay in bed

ALL DAY LONG

Just for one day.

And watch netflix

or read a book.

These are just some of the things that I have realized have changed after having kids.

I have also realized that,

I love being a mom

I am okay with the fact

that my hips will never be the same.

The stretch marks on my stomach

are reminders of the two bundle of joys

I carried for 9 months.

I miss going out with the hubby,

but I love spending the weekends

having pajama parties and

playing games with our kids.

I do love my sleep,

but I also love the mornings when

we all snuggle in bed and watch cartoons

all morning long.

Today, I am going to live more positively

Spend more time with my family

Take advantage of being a stay at home mom.

I am going to live in the moment

I don't want to miss out on these moments.

I don't want to take advantage of the time I get to spend with my kids.

I am going to make new memories,

go on new adventures,

and live life.

Food For Thought Tuesday: Orange Rolls

It has become sort of a tradition to make these Orange Rolls for Easter breakfast.

So this year, it was Orange Rolls and bacon for breakfast! Such a good combination. The best part, these are so easy to make and there is no mess!

These are also fool-proof, anyone can make these. Even if you aren't a "baker" you can still make these!

My family loves this recipe and they never last long in our house!

Orange Rolls

3 packages 7.5 oz pillsbury buttermilk biscuits

1 cube butter

3/4 cup sugar

2 oranges

1 tsp orange zest

Preheat oven 350*

In a bunt pan, layer biscuits in a single layer around the pan. Set aside

Zest oranges and then juice them. In a saucepan melt butter and then add sugar. Bring to a boil and then add in zest and juice from orange.

Pour mixture all over biscuits. Bake in oven for 20-25 minutes or until biscuits are cooked through and the top is golden brown.

Serve hot.

Cooking Fail

I am embarrassed to admit that I actually burned something.

I mean really burned it.

Meaning it was completely INEDIBLE.

This is what happens to your pan when you burn rice.

This is the pan after it's been scrubbed, soaked, scrubbed, boiled, soaked, and scrubbed some more.

Pretty sure I ruined it.

I still have the pan in hopes that maybe I can still salvage it.

Any ideas on how to clean it?

Mod Podged Key Frame {tutorial}

So last week I posted this tutorial over at Brown Paper Packages, so I thought I would post it on here in case anyone missed out last week! :)

Right now I am loving the vintage look. I am slightly obsessed with lace at the moment and I can't stop crafting with it! So today I thought I would show you a project that is both vintage looking and uses lace!

I started out with this frame. If you don't have a frame lying around your house I am always finding a ton at my local thrift store for super cheap.

Alright, let's get started!

Step 1: Paint your frame. I started with a coat of antique white so that when I distressed the edges white would show through.

After your white paint dries, paint your frame black. When the black dries, use some sandpaper to rough up the edges so it looks like this:

Step 2: Cut out a piece of cardboard or matte board to fit the size of your frame.

Step 3: Paint it black

Step 4: Cut out a piece of paper to the size you like and mod podge it onto your cardboard.

Step 5: Cut out a key. (I used my cricut machine) Then mod podge it onto your paper.

Step 6: Attach lace. Apply a thin layer of mod podge to the edge of your board.

Then carefully place lace onto mod podge. You will want to trim the edges to the size you want.

Step 7: Hot glue black ribbon around the edge of your lace.

That's it! You're done! I love how it turned out, and I love the vintage feel of it.

Food For Thought Tuesday: Mexican Tea Cookies

This was the very first recipe I ever made by myself.

I was about 11 years old.

Yes I have been cooking pretty much my whole life, remember this picture? You can read about it here.

Anyways, I was an interesting child. Normal children ask for toys for Christmas. Not me.

I asked for a Mixer.

Yeah, like a kitchen aid.

And no, I didn't actually get a Kitchen Aid, I got a cheap knock-off. But I didn't care. I was thrilled about my new mixer, and ended up making these cookies to test it out!

I grew up eating these cookies, especially during Christmas time. They are basically a shortbread cookie, and they are delicious!

Here is the recipe!

I actually made this dough a while back and froze some cookie dough to see if they would turn out. It turns out that it freezes great, and I just had to cook them a little bit longer and they were just as delicious!

PS: I still don't own a Kitchen Aid mixer.

Spring Blocks

I love spring!

Last year, when I was doing Craft Night we made these blocks.

I finally just got mine out of our storage and was so excited to put them up again this year!

They were so much fun to make and I really love how mine turned out!

So I thought I would repost the tutorial, incase anyone missed out last year.

Here is the tutorial!

Supplies Needed

6 wood blocks, differing in sizes.

6 coordinating pieces of scrapbook paper

2 sheets of lighter color scrapbook paper for your letters. I just used white.

Paint

Mod Podge

Buttons

Ribbon

Hot Glue

Step 1: Cut out your blocks and sand them.

S: 9 x 5 1/2"

P: 6 x 3 1/2"

R: 7 x 5 1/2"

I: 3 1/4 x 4"

N: 5 x 3 1/2"

G: 4 1/2 x 3 1 /4"

Step 2: Paint your blocks. For these blocks I used antique white. I like it because it isn't stark white and it has a little bit of a yellow undertone.

Step 3: While your blocks are drying, cut out your paper to fit the size of each of your blocks.

these are the sizes of paper for my blocks

Step 4: After your blocks are dry, apply a thin layer of mod podge to the FRONT of your blocks and apply your paper. Make sure you flatten it out really well so you don't get any bubbles.

Step 5: While your mod podge is drying, cut out your letters. These are the sizes I used. The font is Alphalicious (cricut machine)

S: 5 3/4"

P: 3 3/4"

R: 6 3/4"

I: 3"

N: 4"

G: 3"

Step 6: Mod podge your letters on the front of your blocks.

Step 7: Add any embellishments and ribbon that you like! If you want to make paper flowers you can find my tutorial here.

Lace Flower Bracelet

I know I'm supposed to be posting a recipe today, but I haven't cooked anything worth posting!

I take that back, I just haven't really cooked anything for like a week. :)

So I am posting my latest lace creation!

I seriously can't get enough of this stuff! :)

I made a lace flower, and then hot glued it onto some fabric and layered it with some more lace, and some ribbon.

I also braided some fabric and glued it on as well.

I love how it turned out and I love how vintage it looks.

I love how simple these bracelets are. They are so easy to make and they don't require any sewing! So you can seriously whip one of these out in less than a half an hour!

Random Projects...

Hope you all had a great weekend. I spent mine just relaxing and spending time with my family.

I did work on a few random projects.

I decided I need to add a little color to my house.

My house is seriously lacking in the "COLOR" department. I have never loved bright colors, I really prefer more neutralized colors. I am trying to get out of my comfort zone and create more things with color!

So I just made a simple frame with one of my favorite quotes inside.

I just added a few fabric rosettes to finish it off. Nothing too fancy. :)

I like it, but it doesn't match anything inside my house. :) So I am still wondering where I am going to put it.

The other thing I did over the weekend is restock our food storage.

I ended up buying some large bins for our flour and sugar storage and just put some vinyl on them.

Yeah, if you are looking close enough you will see that they are very crooked. :)

Another Crate Transformation

So this will be crate number 5 for me.

Obsessed?

Maybe.

I just can't help myself when I see one at the thrift store!

I went a little further than just painting the crate. I used some paper for the back and also added a lace flower. Which by the way is my favorite part.

I am having troubles though.

And, my other problem is what to put in it! I don't want it to look cluttered. Especially since it has the paper in the background.

Guest Post: NoriKraft

Hello fellow crafters/bloggers/friends. I'm so excited. This is my first guest blog post. So I was completely flattered when Lindsey asked me to post. I've only been sharing my crafts for a little over a month at Norikraft, although I've been crafting for a long time. I like to try everything, I don't have to be a pro, so I am not a perfectionist. As long as it looks good I'm good. I have two boys that keep me busy, so I try to fit crafts in when I have time to keep me sane and help me feel girly in my boy world... I also design and sell vinyl. So if you ever want some help with vinyl, I'll be glad to help!

Here is what I'm sharing today.

I'm going to share my version of some wood eggs I saw at Hobby Lobby. They were about 20 dollars, they are half off right now but I knew I could make them for less.. I have a lot of stuff on hand, so over all I didn't spend anything, but if I had bought stuff it probably would be about 5 dollars...

ok. so find some wood ovals. I found the smallest one at the dollar tree and the largest at Joanns on clearance and then I cut the middle one with a jigsaw. I thought it would be scary but it was so easy. If i can do it you can!!

1. Cut a portion off of your ovals so you have a base.

2. If you cut all yours out just make a template, trace it on the wood, cut them out with a jigsaw...

Here are my three eggs...

3. Paint your eggs. If you haven't seen the hobby lobby ones, they were painted blue, yellow and pink. I like to do most of my crafts in black. I feel like it blends more with my regular decor and just gives it a good base.

4. Trace your egg on some paper... You could totally skip this and just do different colored paint.

5. Mod podge your paper on your eggs.

6. After the mod podge dries, I used e-6000 to glue my eggs together.

7. you could be done at this point, but I added a few felt flowers and ribbon.

All done!

Food For Thought Tuesday: Sour Cream Cheesecake

Cheesecake is one of my favorite desserts. This recipe is super easy and really tasty! This is my mom's recipe and she has been making this ever since I can remember.

What makes this cheesecake special is the sour cream topping. It makes it even more rich and decadent!

Sour Cream Cheesecake

1 graham cracker pie crust (or you can make your own)

18 oz softened cream cheese

2 eggs

1/2 cup sugar

1 T Lemon Juice

1 tsp vanilla

In a mixing bowl, cream sugar and cream cheese until blended add eggs and remaining ingredients until blended. Pour into pie crust and bake 350* for 35 minutes

Sour Cream Topping

1 cup sour cream

3 T sugar

1 tsp vanilla

Mix ingredients in small bowl until blended. After cheesecake has baked 35 minutes, remove from oven and spread sour cream topping CAREFULLY onto the cheesecake. Put back in oven and bake another 10 minutes.

Remove from oven and let cool. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving.

Top with fresh strawberries or make a strawberry glaze. ( I used Danish Dessert)

This is what we woke up to on Sunday.

Pretty sure I jinxed myself when I said, "It's beginning to look like SPRING around here."

It went from 70 degrees and sunny to this in a matter of 24 hours.

The only upside, I got some amazing pictures of my sister and her fiance!

Thrift Store Cake Pedestal for Spring

Yesterday I stopped by my local thrift store and found a few great things.

Two of which are pictured below. A glass plate and a glass sundae dish.

I have seen cake pedestals everywhere lately, and decided that these dishes would work perfect!

I just glued the plate to the glass and added a ribbon bundle and then hot glued a button in the middle.

So simple and fun for spring!
